Motor Show

Being the unashamed petrol head that I am… I’m off to Squidney this weekend for the Australian International Motor Show where I’m gonna feast my eyes on Ferraris, Lambos, Beemers, Bentleys, Mercs and Nissans… That’s right, Nissans. I have a soft spot for Nissans… since I have owned at least 6 Nissan/Datsuns in my driving biography – true story!

Yeah sure, if I was a true Aussie revhead I’d head to Bathurst this weekend but unfortunately my bodyguard is off-duty and I don’t have the spare car to tow, trash, smash and burn (a condition of entry I have been told).

Subaru Rally

If you like cars that go “Ptt-shhhhh” (imagine a car sneezing) … or you just enjoy bright colourful things whizzing past your eyes, then the Subaru Rally of Canberra might just be something you would enjoy this weekend. If you’re in Garema Court this evening, you can meet the drivers, see the cars and be part of the official start of the rally. The official rallying bit kicks off around lunchtime on Friday, but for actual event details you can find out all you’ve ever wanted to know at www.roc.com.au

And, after all that hard spectating, you can celebrate with the stars at the Subaru Rally of Canberra Afterparty at Insomnia on Sunday from 10pm.

The Nats

This time of year also brings about the festival of the driveshaft – SUMMERNATS! Another short wander saw us watching the fully sick beasties do loop after loop around Braddon last night. We were sorely disappointed though as there is a higher than usual police presence this year – the one and only burnout we saw, just happened to be directly in front of an unmarked police car – needless to say the young fella will be a few hundred dollars poorer today, plus a couple of points off his license. The most interesting part of last night was when a bunch of guys in a bad-ass commodore gave a bit of a rev as they went past (no loss of traction, just a rev), only to be surrounded by FIVE motorcycle cops, and promptly booked. Be warned if you’re planning to be naughty on the streets of Canberra this week, the police are planning on making an example of y’all…

Hoonda Time

Some people say a change is as good as a holiday. Others say that when you’re on a good thing, stick to it. After six Nissan’s in a row, I’m now the proud owner of a Honda. Sure, I may be accused of joining the ‘hairdresser set’, but what’s wrong with that? It’s also the first four cylinder I’ve owned since I sold my old beasty Suzuki Sierra all those years ago – I guess that means I can finally sell those shares in ShellOil! Anyway, a friend of mine assures me that he’s got a mate who can bolt on a turbo, lower it to below sea level, weld on a 9inch super phat exhaust, tweak the suspension and throw in a kidney belt. Fully sick or what? :P
